In a bold and low move, the UFC has released a statement on the cancellation of the Uriah Hall vs. Vitor Belfort co-main event, that was originally scheduled for tonight’s UFC St. Louis card.
Yesterday, we learned that Uriah Hall suffered what is being described as a seizure after cutting weight for the bout, and he remains hospitalized over the health scare to this day.
His medical condition is directly associated with the UFC’s weigh-in procedures, that for years has been controversial, as fighters reduce their weight massively to make the required weight limit.
In the past 18 months though, the UFC has made it even more difficult on fighters, reducing their time to cut weight, and requiring them to hit the scales in the new early morning weigh-ins.
The result has been catastrophic, as 51 fighters have missed weight since the new policies implementation.
However, instead of acknowledging that Hall was actually on weight, but was found unconscious, and in a seizure, the UFC blames the fan-favorite middleweight for tonight’s co-main event cancellation, in their official statement.
The UFC’s official release is as follows:
Hall-Belfort Fight Off
Sunday’s UFC Fight Night co-main event between Uriah Hall and Vitor Belfort has been called off after Hall was unable to make weight for the bout at Scottrade Center in St. Louis.
The card, which airs on FS1, will proceed with 11 bouts. Moving to the main card is the featherweight bout between Darren Elkins and Michael Johnson, while the bantamweight clash between Kyung Ho Kang and Guido Cannetti moves to the FS1 prelims.
