The UFC’s resident Sikh fighter, Arjan Bhullar, was originally banned from representing his heritage during his previous UFC fight, and unable to wear his faith based turban to the Octagon, but that’s all changed now.
The UFC passed blame on the reebok deal initially, because fighters are forced to wear the official apparel sponsor’s fight kits only on fight night. However Bhullar’s circumstances are a bit different than someone wanting to wear under armor or Nike to the cage.
The Indian fighter, who is a proud Sikh is just one fight into his UFC career, and the heavyweight fighter was succsful in his first outing to the Octagon.
Now, with a second fight booked for April’s UFC on FOX 29 event, the UFC and Bhullar have both confirmed that the rule has been waved, and he will be allowed to wear his Turban to the cage.
It’s a new first in the UFC, and we’re pretty sure Bhullar couldn’t beporuder to represent his country and faith in the UFC.
MMAJunkie reports:
“As of right now, that is the plan, and we’ve got the green light for that,” Bhullar said. “It’s going to be a very special moment for all Indians.”
A UFC official confirmed to MMAjunkie that Bhullar will be allowed to wear a turban. The 31-year-old fighter, who is Indian and practices the Sikh faith, said he would color-coordinate his UFC uniform with the headwear.
