The term “money fight” has been arguably growing in popularity among UFC competitors over the past years. However, UFC President Dana White is ready to let the promotion’s roster know that Conor McGregor may be the only money fight available.
Competitors within the UFC have begun looking for fights with the highest financial returns for their efforts. UFC flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson has been holding out for a super-fight with bantamweight title holder T.J. Dillashaw over his pay, for instance.
With that in mind, Dana White believes the term money fight may be misconstruing. The UFC president believes some fighters simply attract larger paydays.
Speaking to reporters after Sunday night’s, Jan. 14, UFC Fight Night 124 event, White offered his thoughts on the matter.
“The only reason that there are money fights is because of the rankings.” White explained.
The UFC president went on to state, “When a guy breaks into the top five, that is when people start to get interested in them.”
“Guys talk about money fights.” White said. “It’s the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard. You know what’s a money fight? Any fight with Conor McGregor is a money fight.”
UFC superstar Conor McGregor most recently made the payday of his career in his professional boxing debut. The UFC fighter suffered a TKO loss to Floyd Mayweather Jr. in the summer of 2017, but walked away with an estimated $100 million for his debut inside the squared circle.
