Matt Mitrione Gets Passed “Big Country”, Advances To Second Round In Bellator Heavyweight Tournament

In tonight’s Bellator 194 main event, the second fight of the Bellatory heavyweight tournament kicked off between Matt Mitrione and Roy “Big Country” Nelson.

In the first round, it was all Mitrione, using a good mix of strikes to punish Nelson. However, with 90 seconds left in the round Nelson got the fight to the ground where the fight remained until the final bell.

In the second round it was rinse and repeat for both fighters. Mitrione controlled the action with solid strikes, and with a minute left, Nelson took the fight to the mat, until the bell sounded.

In round 3, “Big Country’ didn’t waste time in taking the fight to the ground. A few minutes in he found himself on top of Mitrione in a mounted crucifix. He punished Mitrione for the majority of the fight, but never forced a stoppage.

The final result: Matt Mitrione def. Roy Nelson via majority decision (28-28, 29-28, 29-28)
