Pugilist phenom Canelo Alvarez is now being temporarily suspended for his recent failed drug test.
Canelo Alvarez was initially set to face off against boxing champion Gennady Golovkin on May 5 inside the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nev. The two pugilist phenoms first faced off back in 2017, with the match ending in a highly controversial draw.
The upcoming rematch against the two boxers has quickly become one of the sport’s most highly anticipated events. With that in mind, Alvarez has since failed a drug test.
Alvarez failed a drug test for the substance clenbuterol back in February. The boxer claimed that the banned substance entered his system due to contaminated meat, rather than intentional illegal usage of a performance enhancing drug.
However, Nevada Athletic Commission (NAC) Executive Director Bob Bennett has since come forward to claim that Canelo Alvarez will be temporarily suspended due to the failed drug test. The fighter will go before the commission on April 10 to discuss the matter.
