Brian Ortega put on an Earth shattering performance over the weekend. Now the UFC president has come forward to reveal that the undefeated mixed martial arts phenom has earned a shot at the UFC featherweight title.
Former UFC lightweight champion Frankie Edgar was initially set to face off against UFC featherweight champion Max Holloway at UFC 222 on Saturday night, March 3. However, Holloway pulled out of the match up after suffering an injury.
Consequently, Edgar faced off against Brian Ortega in the night’s co-main event. “The Answer” had never been finished in his UFC career leading up to UFC 222.
Still, Ortega managed to knock out Edgar within the first round of their co-headlining octagon war. Speaking after the shocking finish, UFC President Dana White revealed that Ortega has earned a shot at the featherweight title.
“Ortega is so incredible and well rounded.” White said. “You’d bet anything if he’s gonna beat Edgar the way he’d win would be by submission and he knocked him out.”
“We’ll make Holloway vs. Ortega immediately when Holloway is cleared and ready to fight.”
