Boxing phenom Canelo Alvarez recently failed a drug test. Following the incident, the Nevada Athletic Commission (NAC) has decided to perform an investigation that has put the fighter’s highly anticipated rematch against Gennady Golovkin in jeopardy.
It was recently revealed that Canelo Alvarez failed an out-of-competition drug test for the substance clenbuterol. The boxer would later claim that the banned substance entered his system due to tainted beef, rather than the knowing use of performance enhancing drugs.
Bob Bennett, executive director of the NAC, has since revealed that the Nevada Athletic Commission plans to launch an investigation into the matter. The investigation will determine whether or not the rematch against Golovkin will take place on the target date of May 5 for not.
Alvarez and Golovkin first faced off back in 2017 in a battle for the WBA, WBC and IBF middleweight belts. However, the fight ended in a controversial draw.
