Among all of the fighters that have attempted to get the attention of Georges St-Pierre, the mixed martial arts phenom has now decided to finally respond to multiple call outs from Ben Askren.
Former two division UFC champion Georges St-Pierre elected to vacate his newly earned UFC middleweight title back in 2017 after suffering a debilitating case of colitis. Now the fighter is feeling better again and looking to organize his fighting future.
Since his long awaited octagon return at UFC 217, rumors have been swirling as to which fighter St-Pierre will take on next. The French-Canadian has been called out by hoard of world class athletes from reigning UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley to undefeated former ONE welterweight champion Ben Askren.
Speaking on the latest edition of The MMA Hour, Georges St-Pierre revealed his thoughts on facing Askren inside the octagon.
“Ben Askren, I don’t understand why he’s not in the UFC, because he’s one of the best welterweights in the world.” St-Pierre stated. “I think it’s because a problem he has with Dana White. But he’s one of the best fighters in the world. If there is a guy for my legacy that would have been good to fight it would have been Ben Askren. Because, he beat everybody. He beat all the guys at Bellator, he beat all the champions outside of the UFC. Unfortunately, I think he had a fallout with Dana and he never had a chance to fight in the UFC, and therefore his stock never went to the value that it’s supposed to be at.”
“He’s a guy that’s extremely extremely talented, a very dangerous guy, but nobody knows who he is.”
St-Pierre then doubled down on his statement, claiming that Ben Askren would really have to boost his notoriety if he wanted to face the French-Canadian.
“In order to have a fight with me, I’d like him to be exposed to the public so his stock goes up, so if I fight him at least it’s a win win situation.” St-Pierre said. “Otherwise you fight a guy who is extremely dangerous who nobody cares about, who nobody knows who he is. It’s sad, but that’s the real way to look at it.”
“It’s not a fight that would interest me now, because nobody knows who he is.”
