It was recently reported that UFC flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson and UFC bantamweight champion T.J. Dillashaw are no longer being targeted for a super fight. Dillashaw initially wanted to take on the fellow champion, but “Mighty Mouse” has since suffered an injury.
UFC President Dana White later revealed that fact and explained that a new title fight will be considered for Dillashaw. With that in mind, it would appear that Dillashaw’s camp is now interested in a title fight rematch with a former champion.
T.J. Dillashaw first faced off against former title holder Dominick Cruz back in 2016. The two mixed martial arts warriors ultimately went the distance, with Cruz earning a close split decision victory over his opponent. As reported by IB Times, Dillashaw’s coach Duane Ludwig recently revealed in an interview that he wants the bantamweight champion to fight Cruz all over again.
“[The] holdup is probably dates and money, I’m assuming. I really don’t know what the hold up is, because I’m not in on those meetings and I don’t really want to be. I have focused my efforts on the actual martial arts aspect, of improving TJ and his martial arts in general. I’m teaching him and finding out, again, what actually works. But the business side, I try to let them figure that out on their own.”
“What’s Cruz’s situation, now? For me, personally, I would like to see that [rematch]. So Demetrious, and then – or – Cruz.”
