The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is gearing up to put on a stunningly entertaining mixed martial arts event in the coming month, as the promotion is preparing for the highly anticipated fight card of UFC 223. Now a new rumor suggests that UFC superstar Conor McGregor may have more involvement in the event than initially anticipated.
UFC 223 is set to see UFC interim lightweight champion Tony Ferguson finally face off against Khabib Nurmagomedov. The two mixed martial arts warriors have been scheduled to fight on multiple occasions, but have never made it toe-to-toe inside the octagon.
Following missed weights and debilitating injuries, each match up has been cancelled. Now, however, the two fighters are set to face off for the undisputed UFC lightweight belt.
With UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor having never defended a title and having not competed inside the octagon since 2016, the UFC has elected to strip the fighter of his belt the moment Nurmagomedov and Ferguson touch gloves at UFC 223.
With that in mind, Middle Easy has since reported a new rumor. The rumor claims that McGregor will be present for the event and will potentially perform a post-fight face-off with the winner between the two fighters.
Check out their original report below:
“Huge if true, but it still looks like Conor McGregor is scheduled to attend UFC 223. The UFC has gone away from the practice over the last few years, but there is a possibility of them working in a McGregor versus the winner Tony Ferguson and Khabib Nurmagomedov post-fight face-off.”
UFC 223 goes down April 7 inside the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. The event will be featured live on pay-per-view.
