It would appear that the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) now has a fight card in mind for Robert Whittaker’s first title defense match up.
UFC middleweight champion Robert Whittaker has yet to defend his title. The fighter earned the interim title after defeating Yoel Romero, only to be upgraded to the undisputed champion after Georges St-Pierre vacated the title.
Whittaker was set to defend his title from former champion Luke Rockhold, but was forced out of the match up due to an injury. Consequently, Rockhold and Romero faced off for division dominance.
Rochhold earned a knockout victory over the former champion, earning the fighter a shot at the title. Now a report claims that the world’s most famous mixed martial arts promotion is looking to lock down Romero vs. Rockhold for UFC 225.
As reported by MMA journalist Ariel Helwani over social media, the UFC is currently targeting the exciting title fight rematch for UFC 225. The bout is not yet official, but is seemingly close to being cemented in place.
UFC 225 goes down June 9 inside the United Center in Chicago, Illinois.
