The UFC Banned Sean O’Malley From Wearing His Signature Robe At UFC 222

Sean O’Malley was not permitted to don his signature robe during his walkout at UFC 222. Now the fighter has come forward with a statement on the matter.

O’Malley made a name for himself on Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series. The fighter not only put on a stunning performance in front of the UFC president, but also earned some attention for his time smoking what appeared to be marijuana with hip hop icon Snoop Dogg.

O’Malley has even debuted his own strain of marijuana, calling it “The best weed I’ve ever smoked.” Naming the strain after himself, the fighter has elected to term the substance “‘Suga’ Sean O.G.”

The fighter put on another stunning performance over the weekend, earning a unanimous decision victory over Andre Soukhamthath at UFC 222. With that in mind, things did not entirely go the way O’Malley had planned.

The former Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series star was not wearing his signature robe when he made his walk to the octagon. The garb features images of marijuana leafs. That being said, O’Malley now claims the issue with the robe was with its brand.

Speaking on the latest edition of The MMA Hour, Sean O’Malley explained that he was not allowed to use the robe because it was not provided by Reebok.

“I wanted to walk out with my robe on. But, one of the UFC higher ups said I couldn’t because it’s not Reebok. Which I thought was kind of funny because none of my clothes for media day were Reebok either. But it’s whatever, I thought the open workouts were fun.”
