UFC featherweight Brian Ortega put on a stunning performance last week, shocking the world with a finish over Frankie Edgar. Now the fighter has skyrocketed his way to the No. 1 contender position for the division.
Brian Ortega accepted a short notice call to arms for UFC 222. Once UFC featherweight champion Max Holloway pulled out of his title fight against Frankie Edgar due to an injury, Ortega filled the empty co-main event slot.
Ortega put on a dominant performance over “The Answer,” earning a knockout victory over Edgar within the first round. Frankie Edgar had never been finished in his illustrious mixed martial arts career before UFC 222.
UFC President Dana White has since revealed that Brian Ortega has earned a shot at the featherweight title. Within the “UFC Rankings Report,” it has since been revealed that Brian Ortega has also made his way to the No. 1 contender position.
