UFC middleweight Yoel Romero is gearing up for a hopeful shot at the title. With that in mind, the tough contender has now come forward to reveal that he has learned a thing or two from former UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones.
Yoel Romero recently earned a third round knockout victory over former champion Luke Rockhold, earning the fighter a shot at the title. Now the fighter claims he is being targeted for a title fight against reigning champion Robert Whittaker for UFC 225.
Speaking to longtime UFC commentating veteran Joe Rogan, Yoel Romero offered his thoughts on what it takes to prepare for a five round title fight. Speaking with the commentator on the “JRE MMA Show” podcast, Romero offered his thoughts.
“I can’t do what I did 20 years ago,” Romero said. The fighter then explained that he once visited Greg Jackson Gym to spend some time with Jackson and Winkeljohn to hone his skills. During the time period, the fighter trained with Jon Jones.
“I saw something. (Jackson and Winkeljohn) controlled my attacks – when I should attack. I learned that from Jon.”
“I’m never worried about five rounds, because I train every day. You have to be worried if you know you don’t have the gas in that gas tank.”
