UFC welterweight Colby Covington has become an icon of controversy as of late. The fighter has been taking his trash-talking to unfiltered, new heights. Taking aim at upcoming women’s UFC bantamweight title challenger Raquel Pennington, the fighter has now offered more heated remarks that are getting the attention of fight fans.
During the recent UFC 25th Anniversary Press Conference, it was revealed that Colby Covington will be facing off against former lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos for the interim UFC welterweight title at UFC 225. After Covington dished out some scorching trash-talking during the conference, Raquel Pennington went on to explain that she wanted to “smack” Covington in the head for some of his remarks.
Speaking to FloCombat after the event, Covington decided to offer his response to Pennington’s statement by involving the bantamweight title challenger’s wife into the conversation.
“Who is Raquel Pennington? What is she, 9-5 in the weakest division in the UFC? Let me tell you the real reason Raquel Pennington is mad at me. She’s mad at me ‘cause her wife, when she was at American Top Team, Tecia Torres, was always googly-eyed over me, staring at me across the mats. She must have walked in on her wife one day looking at my Instagram ‘cause I’m so sexy, American raw steel and sex appeal. There’s the real reason. She’s not mad at what I said at the press conference. She’s just mad that her wife has googly eyes for me.”
Raquel Pennington will face off against reigning women’s UFC bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes at UFC 224. The event will take place May 12 in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil.
