UFC President Dana White has come forward with a statement concerning the possibility of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) taking punitive measures against Conor McGregor. White also spared a few words on the possibility of “Notorious” facing Khabib Nurmagomedov in Russia.
Former two-division UFC champion Conor McGregor is facing misdemeanor and felony charges for allegedly leading a large entourage backstage of the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York on April 5 and allegedly attacking a bus filled with red corner fighters for UFC 223.
The intended target was reportedly Khabib Nurmagomedov, who had an altercation with McGregor’s teammate Artem Lobov days before. While “Notorious” is due back in court June 14 for to face misdemeanor charges of assault and a felony charge of criminal mischief, the UFC has yet to claim any intentions of punishing the fighter for the incident.
Speaking to TMZ Sports, UFC President Dana White has since revealed that the promotion plans to await the court’s hearing for McGregor’s case before making any decisions of their own.
“He’s gotta be punished by the law first,” White said. “Let’s see what happens in New York.”
Following the incident, rumors of the UFC targeting a super-fight between newly crowned UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov and Conor McGregor for the promotion’s big debut in Russia have been swirling. Speaking on the matter, White revealed that the fight would have to happen in Las Vegas, Nev.
“If you do a fight that big, you’ve got to do it in Vegas,” White said. “Khabib will fight in Russia at some point, but it won’t be that fight.”
