Phil Brooks, better known by his WWE moniker CM Punk, is set to make his big octagon return. With that in mind, Mike Jackson does not believe the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is interested in seeing Punk get a win in his MMA career.
CM Punk made his MMA debut inside the octagon against Mickey Gall back at UFC 203. Gall put on a greatly dominant performance over his opponent, earning a swift submission victory.
Now Punk is set to face off against Mike Jackson, another fighter that was defeated by Gall in his UFC debut, at UFC 225. The two will square off June 9 inside the United Center in Chicago, Illinois.
Speaking on the latest edition of The MMA Hour, Mike Jackson revealed that he does not think the UFC wants CM Punk to win.
“I don’t really feel UFC wants him to win. I’ve never looked at it from that perspective. If that were the case, they never would’ve put him in there against Mickey Gall. If they really wanted him to win, that wouldn’t have been the fight to give him. They would have just been a pre-matched fight prior to that if they were really looking to protect him. I just feel this is a bucket list thing for him, it’s something he wanted to try out and see what happens.”
