The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) was sent into a scramble over the weekend, as UFC interim lightweight champion Tony Ferguson was pulled from his highly anticipated title fight on just six days notice. Now longtime UFC commentating veteran Joe Rogan has come forward with his thoughts on the matter.
Tony Ferguson was set to face off against Khabib Nurmagomedov for the undisputed UFC lightweight title in the main event of UFC 223. However, “El Cucuy” has since torn his LCL.
Just six days before the fight, Ferguson was pulled from the highly anticipated match up. Nurmagomedov is now set to face UFC featherweight champion Max Holloway for the lightweight title.
Ferguson and reigning, yet inactive, lightweight champion Conor McGregor will be stripped of their titles the moment the first punch is thrown within the upcoming main event match up. Ferguson vs. Nurmagomedov is a fight that has now been scheduled and cancelled a staggering total of four times.
Taking to Twitter to comment on the matter, Joe Rogan had the following to say:
“I didn’t want to comment yesterday on the faintest chance that this was all just an elaborate April fools joke, but here we are folks. Both amazing and bittersweet at the same time. I’m sure by Saturday I’ll be over my heartbreak and beyond pumped for this fight.”
