UFC lightweight contender Khabib Nurmagomedov is gearing up to face off for the UFC lightweight title. Now the fighter already has his sights set on his next opponent.
Nurmagomedov was initially set to fight UFC interim lightweight champion Tony Ferguson for the undisputed title at UFC 223. However, Ferguson has since torn his LCL and has been pulled from the match up.
Consequently, Nurmagomedov will now face UFC featherweight champion Max Holloway for the lightweight belt in the night’s main event. Ferguson and reigning lightweight champion Conor McGregor are set to be stripped of their titles after the first punch of the night’s fight is thrown.
Speaking on WFAN’s “Outside the Cage,” Nurmagomedov revealed that he is interested in facing former two division champion Georges St-Pierre for his next fight, rather than UFC superstar Conor McGregor.
“Madison Square Garden, 155 [pound] belt, Georges St-Pierre,” Nurmagomedov said.
“About Conor? I don’t remember when he fight last time,” Nurmagomedov continued. “He have to fight with, maybe they [Conor and Ferguson] fight each other, like some prelims where I fight main card.
“Me and Georges St-Pierre main event; they can fight prelims.”
