Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu phenom and undefeated mixed martial artist Mackenzie Dern is gearing up for her next big octagon performance. This time around, the BJJ ace has a new source of motivation for her upcoming match up.
Dern is the daughter of BJJ legend Wellington ‘Megaton’ Dias. Not only will Dern be fighting in the home country of her family, but the fighter will be competing in front of her father as well.
Dern is set to face off against Amanda Cooper at UFC 224. The highly anticipated live pay-per-view event will take place May 12 in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil.
Speaking to Portal do Vale Tudo, Dern offered her thoughts on the matter.
“Fighting in Rio will be very special for me. It’s something I asked the UFC. I’m really happy they gave me that opportunity. My entire family will be there and it’s going to be the first time my dad will see me fight MMA.”
“Every fight is a new challenge for me. I always try to be a better version of myself, technically and physically. I’m here to conquer my place in the sun and be a champion.”
