UFC lightweight and mixed martial arts veteran Joe Lauzon made his latest octagon performance over the weekend. However, things simply did not go the veteran’s way. Now former title holder and MMA great Matt Serra has come forward with a few words on the matter.
Joe Lauzon faced off against Chris Gruetzemacher at UFC 223 on Saturday, April 7. Lauzon seemingly never backed down from his opponent, but was simply unable to keep up with Gruetzemacher pace and powerful strikes. Lauzon’s corner ultimately called a stop to the contest, making Gruetzemacher the winner via TKO (corner stoppage).
Matt Serra was cage side for the event, as the fighter cornered headliner Al Iaquinta on the night’s card. Speaking about his experience seeing Lauzon in the locker room ahead of the fight, Serra revealed that the fighter may have gassed himself out by going too intensely in his warm ups.
“That dude did a f**king UFC fight in the locker room. He put one of his buddy’s head gear on and he’s beating him up. He’s throwing him. Joe looked awesome in the f**king locker room. I’m wondering if he should have saved some like…maybe save some for the cage.”
