UFC featherweight champion Max Holloway is stepping up on severely short notice to challenge tough UFC lightweight contender Khabib Nurmagomedov in the highly anticipated main event of UFC 223. Now the reigning title holder has come forward with his thoughts on the opportunity.
Khabib Nurmagomedov and UFC interim lightweight champion Tony Ferguson were locked in to fight for the undisputed UFC lightweight title at UFC 223. However, Ferguson has since torn his LCL while attending a media event.
Consequently, Nurmagomedov will now be facing off against Max Holloway. The two fighters will be competing for the lightweight title, as Ferguson and Conor McGregor are to be stripped of their titles as soon as the first punch of the fight is thrown.
Speaking to KHON2 Sports Director Rob DeMello, as seen within the video below, Holloway offered his thoughts on the big match up.
“I’m here to fight, man. I’m here to fight. I have business to handle at 145 pounds, but I said when the UFC called, I’m one call away. They called the right guy.”
