Young UFC star Sage Northcutt reportedly has a fight in the works for the UFC”s debut in Idaho, against a tough welterweight in Zak Ottow.
The bout would mark Sage Northcutt’s return to the UFC’s 170 pound division, after picking up two wins in the UFC’s lightweight class.
Sports Illustrated broke the news earlier today:
A welterweight matchup between Sage Northcutt and Zak Ottow is in the works for UFC Boise, sources confirmed with FanSided.
The organization’s Idaho debut will take place on July 14 at CenturyBank Arena and is expected to air on FS1.
After suffering a submission loss to Mickey Gall back in December 2016, Northcutt (10-2) has responded with back-to-back victories. “Super” Sage dropped back down to lightweight to defeat Michel Quinones by unanimous decision last November at UFC Fight Night 120. Most recently, Northcutt picked up another unanimous decision win over Thibault Gouti back in February at UFC Fight Night 126. The 22-year-old recently began training with Team Alpha Male and looks to make it three in a row this summer.
Ottow (16-5) has flip-flopped wins and losses since making his UFC debut back in October 2016, where fans saw him emerge victorious over Josh Burkman with split-decision at UFC Fight Night 96. He would be on the wrong end of a split-decision in his next fight against Sergio Moraes, before picking up his second UFC win over Klichi Kunimoto last June.
