Former two-division UFC champion Conor McGregor is due back in court June 14 following a fracas inside the Barclays Center that has the fighter facing three misdemeanor charges of assault and a felony charge of criminal mischief. Now UFC heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic has come forward with his thoughts on the matter.
In retaliation to Khabib Nurmagomedov getting into a heated altercation with McGregor’s teammate and friend Artem Lobov in a hotel days earlier, “Notorious” took a large entourage backstage of Brooklyn, New York’s Barclays Center on Thursday, April 5, and allegedly attacked a bus in which Nurmagomedov and several other fighters were inside.
The fracas lead to multiple individuals being injured, including Michael Chiesa and Ray Borg. Three fights were ultimately pulled from the upcoming UFC 223 fight card due to the incident and an estimated $8,000 in damages was caused to the bus.
Speaking with ESPN’s Michelle Beadle, Stipe Miocic has decided to offer his thoughts on the matter.
“I would never do that, like to that point.” Miocic said. “I understand that he was trying to back his boy up and I also understand that you can’t be doing that. People get hurt.”
“I’m constant.” The champion continued. “I’m always doing the right thing and that’s the way I was raised. If I did that, honestly, my mom would destroy me. My wife would kill me, like ‘who do you think you are?’ You know? I would never do anything like that. I’m just being who I am, but I would do it a different way.”
