It would appear that overtime the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) has cut a massive total of the women’s bantamweight division. Now things have reached a new level.
The most recent mixed martial artist to be cut from the women’s UFC bantamweight division is Leslie Smith. The fighting phenom was near the end of her contract with the promotion when UFC Fight Night 128 approached.
The fighter was initially set to face off against Aspen Ladd. However, Ladd severely missed weight. Consequently, Smith elected to not accept a catchweight fight against the competitor. Their match up was then scratched from the UFC Fight Night 128 card.
With Smith only having a single fight left on her contract, the UFC decided to pay the fighter her show and win money from the cancelled match up allegedly to permit the fight to count towards her contract. The promotion then decided to not renew Smith’s contract.
Now only 19 fighters strong, every competitor on the women’s bantamweight roster that has at least a single victory under the promotion is now a ranked fighter.
