UFC welterweight Kamaru Usman first drew attention from fight fans when the fighter claimed he defeated Emil Meek at just “30 percent” during their UFC Fight Night 124 match up. Now Usman has come forward to discuss the adversity faced in his latest match up.
Usman put on a dominant performance over former UFC welterweight title challenger Demian Maia in the main event of UFC Fight Night 129 on Saturday night, May 19. Following the unanimous decision victory, Usman went on to claim that he broke both of his hands in the fight.
Speaking to Jimmy Smith inside the octagon, Usman stated:
“No excuses. But I think i broke my right hand in the second. I wasn’t letting it go as much and then I broke my left one in the third. It’s just to let everyone know.”
Backstage of the Movistar Arena, Usman went on to tell UFC correspondent Laura Sanko:
“I threw a straight, straight down the middle. I hurt my hand previously, right before that, but I threw it anyways right down the middle and when I threw it and I dropped him I felt it crunch again, I was like f**k. I could try to finish him right now but we still got more rounds to go.”
