It would appear that another tragedy has struck the world of mixed martial arts. A professional competitor within the sport has been struck by an allegedly drunk driver.
Mixed martial artist Carmella James has competed for a few different promotions throughout her career, including Bellator MMA. The fighter has gone 0-4 in her career.
As reported by ksn.com, James is now in critical condition after being struck by a suspected drunk driver.
“Our gym is suffering right now for her,” the fighter’s coach Marcio Laselva told KSN. “Everybody really loved her here. She’s just a clown and she’s tough and she helps everybody.”
Teh 24-year-old was riding her bike on Tuesday morning, when the fighter was struck by a vehicle.
“She was in her bicycle going to work at 5 o’clock in the morning because she didn’t have money for gas,” Laselva explained.
“She wanted a platform to talk about Jesus, talk about changes, being a voice for the community that you can actually come out of all of these situations,” The coach stated. “She wanted to be seen as an example that we actually can.”
