Bellator welterweight Paul Daley suffered a tough loss back on May 12. Now the fighter has come forward with some critical words concerning the night’s referee.
Paul Daley went toe-to-toe with Jon Fitch on Saturday, May 12, for Bellator 199. Fitch managed to control Daley for much of the fight, ultimately earning a unanimous decision victory over the fighter.
Speaking on the latest edition of The MMA Hour, Paul Daley accused the night’s referee of being “under instruction” to permit Fitch the ability to wait out the fight from a dominant position on the ground.
“You could see it was a punishment.” Daley said. “Matching me against a wrestler is not great for the fans, but I felt like I normally have Mike Beltran as a referee or some other referee for the past three fights I think.
“And then they switched it for this occasion to Jason Herzog, who is a ground guy or whatever.”
“It wasn’t the fact that the match up was bad.” Daley later continued. “It was the fact that the referee was under instruction, I’ll say, to allow Jon Fitch to work his tactics.”
