Fight fans and fighters alike have been offering their thoughts on former UFC heavyweight title challenger Alistair Overeem being moved to the preliminary card for his upcoming match up against Curtis Blaydes. Now UFC President Dana White has come forward with a statement on the matter.
The highly anticipated fight card of UFC 225 is set to take place June 9 inside the United Center in Chicago, Illinois. Headlining the night’s event, UFC middleweight champion Robert Whittaker will be going toe-to-toe with Yoel Romero in a massive rematch.
Overeem vs. Blaydes was initially set to take place on the night’s live pay-per-view main card. However, the fight has since been moved down to the preliminary card. In its place, former UFC women’s bantamweight champion Holly Holm’s match up against former Invicta FC featherweight title holder Megan Anderson has been moved up to the main card.
Meanwhile Chicago native Phil Brooks, better known by his WWE moniker CM Punk, is still set to compete against Mike Jackson in the opening fight for the night’s main card. Speaking after the recent UFC Fight Night 130 broadcast, UFC President Dana White offered a word on the matter.
“When Alistair Overeem sells as many pay-per-views as CM Punk does, we can argue.” White said.
