With Ryan Bader having brought a swift end to “King Mo,” the first round of the Bellator heavyweight tournament grand prix has now come to an end. The time has come to take a look at the upcoming semi-finals for the exciting Bellator heavyweight champion decision maker.
In order to determine a champion of the Bellator heavyweight division, the mixed martial arts promotion has elected to host a series of match ups in a tournament reminiscent of an older age of MMA. Chael Sonnen and Quinton “Rampage” Jackson kicked off the grand prix, with Sonnen wrestling his way to a victory.
Matt Mitrione would go on to earn a win of his own over Roy Nelson, avenging a tough loss to the fighter from the days under the banner of the UFC. Fedor Emelianenko made short work of two-time former UFC heavyweight champion Frank Mir, earning “The Last Emperor” a spot in the tournament’s semi-finals.
