50 Cent Sells Catch Phrase To Bellator MMA For $1 Million

Rap legend 50 Cent has deepened his relationship with Bellator MMA, selling one of his famous catch phrases for $1 Million to the Viacom owned MMA promotion.

50 Cent took to his Instagram to announce the deal:

l did a deal today l sold (get the strap) for a million dollars to Viacom’s Bellator. So you will see lt on some cooler clothing shortly. ?see how l make something out of nothing. LOL

Hip Hop outlet The Source has more on the deal:

50 Cent is claiming that he has sold his famous catchphrase “Get the Strap” for $1 million. The rapper/entrepreneur says he sold the trendy saying to Viacom’s Bellator who plans to use the phrase on their clothing.

The G-Unit CEO recently started selling T-shirts and hats with the catchphrase but has apparently decided to cash in while it was hot. The saying was made popular by 50 Cent on Instagram, but the Power Executive Producer admits that it was, in fact, the writer of his hit show on Starz, Courtney Kemp who wrote the line for Fif’s character, Kanan, on the show.

The potential million-dollar saying almost landed the “In Da Club” rapper in hot water earlier this year. There was an NYPD investigation into his use of the phrase in reference to Deputy Inspector Emmanuel Gonzalez who allegedly sought favors from 50’s NYC club, Love & Lust. One of the reported favors included round-trip flights to Puerto Rico.

While 50 Cent brushed off the investigation and harassment claims by the NYPD, the rapper’s legal team denied any wrongdoing in the case claiming that “get the strap” is used by 50 on Instagram as a “playful” jest.

Viacom has not released a statement yet on the deal, but if this holds true it’ll be the beginning of what’s already shaping up to be a big summer. The much anticipated fifth season of Power debuts on July 1 and the series has already been renewed for a 6th season which will be directed by 50 himself.
