Brian Ortega Explains Bond With Robert Downey Jr., And It All Started In Jail

UFC featherweight Brian Ortega is putting his undefeated streak on the line as he faces off against reigning champion Max Holloway for his title in the co-main event of the highly anticipated fight card for UFC 226. That being said, Ortega has already had a very different experience in the spotlight.

Speaking at the recent UFC 226 Media Lunch, Brian Ortega went into detail concerning his friendship with none other than Hollywood superstar Robert Downey Jr.

“I got a call. They’re saying RDJ. They kept saying this RDJ. I’m like, ‘who’s RDJ?’ Robert Downy Junior. Who is Robert Downy Junior?

“I didn’t really understand. I barely follow sports and TV in general, that’s why. Then they said, ‘Hey RDJ is going to FaceTime you.’ I was like, ‘okay. I am going to finally get to find out who this is.’

“I look and I’m like, ‘Holy sh*t, it’s Iron Man.’ I got on the phone and we started talking. He was one of the most realest people that I’ve ever met.

“He asked me where I lived and I said I’m in Carson.”

“He said, ‘I’ve been to Carson Station before I went to Twin Towers.’ Like no way, I have too. We kind of bonded over that situation. It was just cool to see someone at that level just be so real and say, ‘Yeah I’ve been locked up there. Yeah I did this…’ For me, it was easy to bond with.

“After that, we just kind of set up a relationship and he text me and I text him.”
