UFC women’s strawweights Carla Esparza and Claudia Gadelha battled it out inside the octagon over the weekend. Following a tough decision loss, “Cookie Monster” has come forward to accuse her opponent of cheating.
Esparza and Gadelha went toe-to-toe on the preliminary card of UFC 225 on Saturday, June 9. The two fighters went the distance, with Gadelha ultimately earning a split decision victory over her opponent.
Speaking after the fight on the latest edition of The MMA Hour on Monday, June 11, Carla Esparza accused her opponent of greasing herself in an attempt to gain an advantage in the fight.
“Flat out this is not an excuse because I lost, because I honestly feel that I still won.” Esparza said. “But, she cheated in the fight. She greased before the fight. I was considering saying something to the ref in between the fight.
“I was going to say like, ‘She’s greasing.” Esparza continued. “But, I didn’t really know how to go about it. It’s pretty shady, to me.”
