UFC Champion Robert Whittaker Injured, Puts Next UFC Appearance Out

UFC middleweight champion Robert Whittaker faced off against Yoel Romero in a non-title fight rematch over the weekend. Now the fighter has come forward with a statement.

Whittaker and Romero went the distance in a five round octagon war on Saturday for the main event of UFC 225. In the end, the reigning champion earned a split decision victory over his opponent.

Speaking on The MMA Hour, Robert Whittaker revealed that he broke his hand in the match.

“It’s a clean break, as good as a break can get. It should be pretty good. I’m going to get surgery, going to get my rehab, and get strong. I really want to be fighting before the New Year.”

“I don’t remember when I broke it. But I do remember not being able to feel my hand from my fingertips to my forearm I knew something was up, because I never felt it like that before, I’ve broken hands before in fights, but I’ve never had it go that numb, completely unable to close it.”
