UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov has a few options for his next opponent. That being said, it would appear that Conor McGregor may have just been bumped off the list.
Fight fans have been patiently waiting for Tony Ferguson and “The Eagle” to go toe-to-toe, but the two mixed martial artists have been scheduled to fight and ultimately had their fights cancelled a stunning total of four times. Beyond that, some fight fans are hopeful former multi-division UFC champion Georges St-Pierre will drop in weight to make a run for the UFC lightweight belt.
With all of that being said, perhaps the number one super-fight on many fans minds is an octagon battle between Conor McGregor and Khabib Nurmagomedov. After all, Conor McGregor is now facing criminal charges for allegedly attacking a bus in an attempt to assault “The Eagle.”
Speaking to MMA Fighting, Nurmagomedov’s manager Ali Abdelaziz revealed that the lightweight champion is not interested in facing “Notorious.”
“We believe the fight to make is the Georges St-Pierre fight at 155 pounds. Khabib wants to fight for legacy and not for a soap opera drama show, and we think Conor doesn’t deserve this opportunity. The guy hasn’t fought in almost two years. Why does he deserve to fight for the title? He should get his ass back in the line and work his way up.”
“There’s only one reason Khabib wants to fight him: to make him pay for what he did [in Brooklyn]. For Khabib, it’s not only about money. It’s about disciplining him.
“That being said, UFC should be talking to Georges, not Conor.”
