UFC middleweight Yoel Romero is no longer fighting for the title over the weekend. Still, the mixed martial artist is reportedly campaigning for a shot at the belt.
Yoel Romero was initially set to challenge reigning champion Robert Whittaker to a title fight rematch in the main event of UFC 225. However, Romero failed to make weight for the fight.
Consequently, the two mixed martial artists are now set to compete in a non-title fight for the event. UFC 225 goes down this Saturday, June 9, from inside the United Center in Chicago, Illinois. The event will be featured live on pay-per-view.
TSN’s Aaron Bronsteter has since come forward over social media to report that the Illinois State Athletic Commission halted Romero from cutting weight on his second weigh-in attempt prematurely. Romero then allegedly told the reporter that he is still negotiating for a chance to fight for the title.
Romero reportedly is only interested in a battle for the belt.
