Former UFC light heavyweight champions Tito Ortiz and Chuck Liddell have formed an intense rivalry over the years. Following the announcement that both mixed martial arts veterans have since come out of retirement, it would now appear that “The Iceman” and “The Huntington Beach Bad Boy” are now set to throw down for a trilogy rematch.
Liddell and Ortiz have fought twice in the past, with Liddell having earned a finish victory over his opponent on both occasions. Since coming out of retirement, Ortiz and Liddell have been in negotiations concerning their trilogy rematch.
Now ESPN has reported that both fighters have signed under Oscar De La Hoya’s Gold Boy Promotions, a premiere boxing promotion, and are expected to face off at a yet undecided date and location.
Speaking to ESPN, De La Hoya stated:
“I’m proud to announce we’ve signed a deal for the fight between Chuck Liddell and Tito Ortiz. This will be huge for sports fans around the world. Ortiz and Liddell are two of the most recognized fighters in MMA history. They are legends in the sport.
“Everyone remembers their rivalry helped put the sport on the map, and we’re excited to host the next and final chapter of this historic rivalry.”
