UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier put on a stunning display in his historic octagon outing over the weekend. The champion’s clash with Brock Lesnar that followed, however, has since earned some criticism from fight fans.
Daniel Cormier made UFC history on Saturday, July 7. The fighter moved up in weight and challenged UFC heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic for his title in the main event of UFC 226.
Cormier knocked out Miocic within the first round, making D.C. the second fighter in UFC history to simultaneously hold multiple division titles. Cormier quickly called out cage side Brock Lesnar in his post-fight interview, with Lesnar then storming the octagon and shoving D.C.
Fight fans have since criticized the moment as being allegedly staged. Lesnar’s background as the WWE champion raised many alarms for fight fans concerning the matter.
However, Daniel Cormier has come forward to adamantly claim that the incident was not pre-planned. Speaking on ESPN’s Ariel Helwani’s MMA Show, Cormier made his claim.
“Nah man.” Cormier said. “I didn’t expect him to be there. If I was told, I would have got distracted right before the fight.”
