UFC lightweight Dustin Poirier is set to take on former UFC lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez in the main event of UFC on FOX 30 this Saturday. With that in mind, Poirier has already found a way to use the event to benefit those in need.
Speaking to MMA Junkie, Poirier revealed that his foundation The Good Fight Foundation is holding a back-to-school drive for the Acadian Middle School in his hometown of Lafayette, La.
“A lot of people don’t know that these teachers are on a pretty low salary, and they spend their own money to get equipment they need in the classroom,” Poirier said. “So we’re just giving back to places where we see we’re needed, and things that are important to us.”
The plan is to raise enough money to fill 500 backpacks with school supplies, Poirier revealed. As part of the fundraiser, Poirier will be auctioning off his fight gear from UFC on FOX 30 this weekend.
“I’m putting all the proceeds toward filling those 500 backpacks,” Poirier said.
