UFC heavyweight Francis Ngannou went toe-to-toe with reigning heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic for his title back at UFC 220. While Ngannou seemingly received much of the promotional force of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), the fighter still came up short. Now Ngannou wants a rematch.
Francis Ngannou suffered a lopsided unanimous decision loss to Stipe Miocic at UFC 220, earning the fighter some heated criticism concerning his questionable cardio. While Ngannou is now set to face Derrick Lewis at UFC 226 on July 7, the fighter is already thinking about a rematch against Miocic.
Speaking at a recent UFC media day, Ngannou offered his thoughts on the matter.
“When he [Lewis] started to talk, I tried to reply, but I realized that a lot of things don’t make sense. I won’t be silly, so I stopped. I let him do his thing. Maybe it’s his personality. But the guy, by himself, I don’t know him. We never know what is behind a fighter until we meet. Sometimes it’s just about business.”
“OK, I’m another big guy. Instead of going forward, we will be smarter and go back to the Francis before the last fight. Watch my opponent, leave it, come to me, and as soon as he gives me the opportunity, I take it.”
“I want both, I want the title, and I want the rematch against Stipe. Doesn’t matter what happens. I want to fix this.”
