It would appear that the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) how now locked in an opponent for Alexander Gustafsson. However, it has since left a former champion without an opponent of his own.
As reported by MMA Junkie, Alexander Gustafsson is now set to face off against Volkan Oezdemir. The two will throw down on the highly anticipated fight card of UFC 227, which will take place Aug. 4 and will be available live on pay-per-view.
Oezdemir, however, was initially set to face off against Mauricio Rua at UFC Fight Night 134. Consequently, Rua is now without an opponent for his match up.
A Gustafsson team representative informed MMA Junkie:
“Alex is extremely hungry and excited to return to the octagon. This is a championship-level fight. If ‘DC’ (Daniel Cormier) comes back the winner of this fight, we’ll face him. You have the No. 1 and 2 fighting on Aug. 4 The focus is 100 percent on the belt. The fans win, and ‘The Mauler’ is coming to the Staples Center.”
