Interim UFC welterweight champion Colby Covington has been pushed to the side concerning title contention. After revealing that he needs time to recover following his five round fight with Rafael dos Anjos at UFC 225, Covington is no longer being targeted for a fight against reigning champion Tyron Woodley.
Rather, the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) has scheduled Tyron Woodley to fight Darren Till at UFC 228 on Sept. 8 in Dallas, Texas. Darren Till missed weight for his latest octagon performance. Beyond that, the UFC now plans to strip Colby Covington of his interim belt the moment Till vs. Woodley begins.
Speaking on his podcast, longtime UFC commentating veteran Joe Rogan has now come forward with his thoughts on the matter.
“I’m stunned.” Rogan said. “Colby just had to get a nose operation.” Covington has revealed a need for a medical procedure concerning his sinuses.
“That seems to be a problem for anybody that is considering taking an interim title fight in the future.” Rogan later continued.
