Interim UFC welterweight champion Colby Covington recently revealed that he needs some time before he steps back inside the octagon. Consequently, it would appear that the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is looking to lock down another fight for the champion.
Division contender Darren Till just earned a huge victory over Stephen Thompson, putting the fighter well within the conversation of title contention. Now ESPN’s Ariel Helwani has come forward to report that Darren Till and reigning UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley are being targeted for UFC 228 on Sept. 8. The fight has yet to be made official, but is reportedly quite close to being finalized.
Colby Covington earned the interim title by beating former lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos by decision back at UFC 225. That being said, it would appear that the mixed martial artist may not be fighting for the undisputed belt any time soon.
