Veteran UFC referee Marc Goddard is considered one of the best officials in the game today.
However, he’s under the microscope today, following his controversial call to stand up Eddie Alvarez and Dustin Poirier in Saturday’s UFC Calgary main event. (Replay above)
Many believe the referee cost Alvarez the fight, but Goddard recently took to twitter to explain his decision, and he also threw Eddie Alvarez under the bus for his multiple fouls throughout the course of what was a 1.5 round fight.
Here’s what Goddard said via twitter:
“Mr Alvarez held the fence, clawed the ear & then threw the 12-6 elbow that is why the positional advantage was taken away.”
Mr Usman, I understand that emotion is a factor. Mr Alvarez held the fence, clawed the ear & then threw the 12-6 elbow that is why the positional advantage was taken away. As for your request, no problem that’s easily arranged. I wish you all the best in your career. Thank you. https://t.co/x3GoCEkLqi
