Former UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez has not competed inside the octagon for quite some time. That being said, the fighter’s head coach is seemingly convinced that the former title holder will be making another octagon appearance soon.
UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier, AKA teammate to Cain Velasquez, is currently set to challenge UFC heavyweight title holder Stipe Miocic for his title at UFC 226. Despite the fact that neither Velasquez or Cormier appear to have an interest in fighting each other, AKA head coach Javier Mendez believes Velasquez will be challenging for the UFC heavyweight title after Daniel Cormier.
Speaking to Express.co.uk, Mendez offered his thoughts on the matter.
“He’s been training before. He’s always been training. It’s just that he’s a family man.
“I think that he wanted to be there for the baby. Now that baby is older.
“He came back to full training. He’s in full training. But he’s been helping Daniel with the Ultimate Fighter.
“His plan is to, once Daniel gets the opportunity and hopefully Daniel can pull it off, it’s no easy feat.
“But hopefully Daniel will pull it off and then from there, it’ll be Cain’s turn. And then Cain will fight for the title.”
“Cain will be the three-time UFC champion. He will be that champion again.”
