“They didn’t make the T.J. (vs.) ‘D.J.’ match because they wanted me to go down there and do it”

UFC bantamweight champion T.J. Dillashaw and reigning UFC flyweight title holder Demetrious Johnson were once in negotiations for a possible super fight. However, the bout never came to fruition.

Now Dillashaw is set to face former champion Cody Garbrandt in a title fight rematch for the main event of UFC 227 on Saturday. Speaking at the recent media luncheon, Garbrandt revealed that he was originally the one to want to fight “Mighty Mouse.”

“They didn’t make the T.J. (vs.) ‘D.J.’ match because they wanted me to go down there and do it. That was my plan originally. T.J. took that from me. He’s not original, but we’ll take care of him this Saturday.”
