Conor McGregor made UFC history when he finished Eddie Alvarez for the lightweight title. Already the UFC featherweight champion, “Notorious” became the first fighter in the promotion’s history to simultaneously hold multiple division belts.
The Ireland native has since been stripped of both belts due to inactivity. Now McGregor is set to fight reigning and undefeated UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov in the main event of UFC 229. The fight will take place Oct. 6, live on pay-per-view.
Talking to reporters at the open workouts for UFC 209 last year, Nurmagomedov revealed that he believes Conor McGregor’s victory over Eddie Alvarez may have been fixed. While the statement is dated to last year, it would still appear that “The Eagle” had some controversial opinions concerning Conor McGregor’s latest octagon performance.
“I don’t care about him [McGregor], you guys know his Uncle Dana give him a gift. He jumped over all contenders and he fought for the title. I do not understand this fight [McGregor vs. Alvarez], he catch him a few times and he falls down—to me this is a fake fight.
