Colby Covington earned the interim UFC welterweight title back at UFC 225. However, the fighter underwent a surgery that forced Covington to be unavailable for a Sept. match up against the reigning champion.
Consequently, the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) has found a new opponent for UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley and has decided to strip Colby Covington of his title the moment Woodley’s next match up begins. That being said, it would appear that Covington will be first in line for a shot at the title following Woodley’s next match up.
Tyron Woodley is currently set to face off against undefeated rising challenger Darren Till. The two fighters will throw down in the main event of UFC 228 on Sept. 8.
Speaking to BT Sport, UFC President Dana White has since revealed that Colby Covington will fight the winner between the two UFC 228 headliners.
“Colby Covington is going to get the next shot.” White said.
