Former UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones and reigning two-division champion Daniel Cormier have been in a ferocious rivalry for some time now. Now the two are battling it out on social media all over again.
Jon Jones dished out D.C.’s only professional loss as an MMA fighter in their first octagon outing. The two were set to rematch at UFC 200. However, Jones was pulled from the fight after failing his drug test.
After a year-long suspension, Jones returned to fight Cormier at UFC 214. Jones earned a knockout victory over the champion, but the fight result was ultimately overturned to a no contest. Jones failed yet another drug test.
This time around, USADA issued Jon Jones a 15-month suspension that will reach its end on Oct. 28, 2018. Speaking on FOX Sports, Daniel Cormier detailed his opinion on Jon Jones’s USADA case. The two-division champion then revealed his frustration with the anti-doping agency.
“I’m the UFC double champion. I have bosses in the back and I’m talking about this guy because I have too. I’ve moved past that guy. I went about my business. I went and won another title. Now this guy’s suspension is up, so we’ll see what happens.”
“I think people get excited, people get excited about the prospect of us fighting again, but I’ve got a fight with Brock Lesnar. Why would I look back? Why would I look back to Jones now when I’ve got a fight? Obviously as a competitor I want to fight the guy whose beat me twice, but I’ve got a fight. Why go back? I’ve got a bigger fight with Brock Lesnar, why should I go back?”
“Here’s the deal: When it comes to USADA, they can’t come to my house anymore at 6 a.m. What’s the point? They’ve been to my house 15 times. USADA, don’t come to my house anymore. You don’t need too. You don’t need to come. I’m not going to fail a test, I’m not going to make any mistakes, I’m not going to have to sit up there and go, ‘I’m serious this time, guys. I promise I wasn’t really trying to cheat.’ It’s never going to happen with me. 70 times. 70 times since I started wrestling internationally and I’ve never made a mistake. It’s not that hard. So even to be sitting here and doing this again shows – guys are ridiculous.”
Daniel Cormier has since taken to social media to reveal that he has been ignoring calls from USADA, seemingly in protest to the agency’s practices.
“Why are you still calling me @usantidoping ? You can stop now!”
Now Jon Jones has come forward with a heated message for the two-division title holder. Check it out within the Instagram post provided down below.
“@dc_mma You mad, Bro? USADA keeps calling but you’re not going to pick up the phone because the second you hear them say I’m innocent is the instant the illusion you’ve created shatters. Then it’s all real AGAIN and that’s not a step you’re willing to take. Instead you wrap yourself in your fake belt and keep telling yourself the shin that slammed into your face and the performance that buried you once again was enhanced.
“The fact you can’t beat me kills you and it stops you from picking up that phone. If you answer it then the nightmare becomes reality. Then again, maybe you do pick up, accept the truth that you were defeated by a superior fighter and that gives you peace. Or it goes another way and you get motivated to try a third time and that will save me the hassle of having to dig you up before I bury you.
“So now that the illusion you’ve built is crumbling and the ‘violation was not intended nor could it have enhanced the athlete’s performance’ you still have to tell yourself something yeah? And while there was ‘absolutely no intention to use prohibited substances,’ it was my intention to kick your ass once again. Mission accomplished. Pick up the phone #letstalkaboutit”
