Daniel Cormier is both the reigning heavyweight and light heavyweight champion of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). Despite the UFC planning to strip the champion of his light heavyweight title, D.C. may plan to defend the belt before the time comes.
UFC News
Daniel Cormier is currently set to fight Derrick Lewis in the heavyweight division within the main event of UFC 230 on Nov. 3. Meanwhile, Jon Jones is now set to fight Alexander Gustafsson in the main event of UFC 232 on Dec. 29.
The UFC has since announced that Daniel Cormier will be stripped of his light heavyweight title as soon as the UFC 232 headliner begins, as Jones and Gustafsson will battle it out for the title. Speaking to media, as seen within the video provided below, Daniel Cormier has since come forward to reveal that he plans on defending his light heavyweight title if he loses his heavyweight belt to Derrick Lewis on Nov. 3.
“If I lose to Derrick, then who is to say I don’t go, ‘Hey, I’m gonna go defend my light heavyweight title. Now you can’t take it.’ Maybe that adds a whole other part to the equation. You can’t take both of my belts if I lost that one. Right? So do I really have that much to lose if I have a second one? Look at it like that.”
“I am the light heavyweight champion until (Jones and Gustafsson) fight. So if the light heavyweight champion loses his heavyweight title and goes, ‘Wait I’m willing to defend my belt,’ now we have some conversations to have.”
